Jelly Belly. Love Handles. Dunlap Disease. Whatever you want to call it, the excess fat around your midsection that wiggles and jiggles in all the wrong places just isn’t pretty. Not only is belly fat unattractive, it can be downright dangerous to your health. Extra fat carried around your abdomen can increase your risk of heart disease. With so many pills, potions and programs flooding the weight loss industry today, many people are left feeling just plain confused about how to effectively reduce belly fat.
The first thing you must know about how to effectively reduce belly fat is that there is no magic bullet when it comes to weight loss. Reducing body fat levels requires a three pronged approach that doesn’t come from popping diet pills or gulping down foul tasting drinks. Belly fat also won’t come off by trying to spot reduce only doing sit-ups or crunches. It’s just not possible to spot reduce, so don’t waste your time.
So, the question remains, how do you effectively reduce belly fat? Here is a safe, practical three pronged approach to get rid of belly fat.
1. Healthy Meals. Notice the word diet isn’t part of the equation. That’s because the word diet conjures up visions of carrots and celery and not much else. The word diet gives us nightmares of deprivation and hunger, and that’s not the image we’re looking for with permanent weight loss. Just because the word diet isn’t used does not mean you’re free to gorge on junk food at will. Healthy meals consist of lean protein, lots of vegetables, whole grains and some fruit. Your should consistantly choose foods that are as close as possible to their natural state.
2. Cardiovascular Exercise. Regular cardiovascular exercise will reduce body fat levels. Where should you start? Wallking is great cardio! Put your shoes on and get moving for at least 30 minutes per day. It doesn’t matter how fast or how far you walk in the beginning, the most important point is that you’re moving your body aerobically on a regular basis. If you don’t enjoy walking then ride a bike, rollerskate, jog, run. Participate in whatever aerobic activity you enjoy.
3. Lift Weights. Yes, you did read that correctly! If you’re wondering what lifting weights has to do with effectively reducing belly fat, then read on. Regular weight lifting has several beneficial effects for those folks trying to reduce their body fat levels. Muscles burn extra calories. The more muscle you carry on your frame, the more calories you burn in a 24 hour period which translates into extra fat burning power. Muscles take up about one third less space than fat. Muscles give you the power to carry on your daily activities more effectively and with energy to spare.
Learning how to effectively reduce belly fat isn’t a difficult task. The three principle keys to getting rid of your gut rely on diet, cardiovascular exercise and weight lifting on a regular basis. Remember, you didn’t sprout belly fat overnight and you can’t get rid of belly fat in a day, but you can reduce belly fat if you’re willing to put forth a bit of effort.

Diet ADHD Tip: Feed the Brain
Phyllis Balch, author of Prescription for Nutritional Healing, has listed this “diet ADHD” in her book.
According to the author: When you’re dealing with an ADHD child, it is best to think of the diet as feeding the brain rather than the stomach. Many researchers believe that if the contributors are removed from the diets of the patients and the right nutritional supplements are added, numerous symptoms often disappear, and medications used to treat ADD / ADHD (some of which cause serious side effects) can often be eliminated.
Foods to Include in Diet ADHD
- Include in the diet all fruits and vegetables (except for those containing salicylates, listed below), plus breads, cereals, and crackers that contain only rice and oats.
- Include cold-water fish such as tuna, salmon, and herring in your diet.These are all good sources of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), an essential fatty acid that is thought to be vital for brain development and is often deficient in those with ADD / ADHD.
- Follow a high-protein diet (similar to hypoglycemia). Protein are needed to supply the body with amino acids. Some researchers are studying the similarities between hypoglycemia and ADD / ADHD. It is possible that a large number of ADD / ADHD diagnoses are in actuality hypoglycemia in disguise. The symptoms are so similar it is difficult to separate them. A low-carbohydrate, high-protein diet, particularly at breakfast, should assist in reducing symptoms if it is truly hypoglycemia.
- Some studies have found that many children with ADD / ADHD have high levels of toxic by-products of yeast and other harmful bacteria in their urine. The use of probiotics (supplements that add beneficial bacteria to the body, such as acidophilus) can help to alleviate this problem.
Complex Carbohydrates Sources for diet ADHD
Be sure that your child is getting his or her carbohydrates from foods that contain complex carbohydrates and cut down on simple carbohydrates. Complex carbohydrates can be found in fresh vegetables, fresh fruits, beans and natural whole grains. They provide dietary fiber and have only a third of the calories found in fats and simple carbohydrates. Simple carbohydrates, such as glucose, fructose, and galactose, are found in all forms of sugars, some juices, and in processed and refined grains (not whole grains).
Limit Dairy Consumption
Limit dairy products if you notice behavioral changes after they are consumed. Dairy foods have been known to cause behavioral problems in some ADHD / ADD sufferers.
Foods to Avoid in Diet ADHD
- Remove from the diet all forms of refined sugar (simple carbohydrates) and any products that contain it. Also eliminate junk food and all foods that contain artificial colors, flavorings, monosodium glutamate (MSG), yeast, or preservatives; processed and manufactured foods; and foods that contain salicylates. Certain foods naturally contain salicylates. These include almonds, apples, apricots, all berries, cherries, cucumbers, currants, oranges, peaches, peppers, plums, prunes, and tomatoes.
- Do not consume any of the following: apple cider vinegar, bacon, butter, candy, catsup, chocolate, colored cheeses, chili sauce, corn, ham, hot dogs, luncheon meat, margarine, meat loaf, milk, mustard, pork, salami, salt, soy sauce, sausage, tea, and wheat.
- Do not use antacid tablets, cough drops, perfume, throat lozenges, or commercial toothpaste. Use a natural toothpaste from a health food store.
- Avoid carbonated beverages, which contain large amounts of phosphates. Phosphate additives may be responsible for hyperkinesis (exaggerated muscle activity.)
- High levels of phosphorous and very low calcium and magnesium levels (which can be revealed through a hair analysis) can indicate a potential for hyperactivity and seizures.
- Meat are also high in phosphorous.

Anxiety and Panic Attacks
Anxiety disorder is a far more common problem than was once thought. In can affect people in their teen age years through middle age and later. Anxiety disorder appears to affect twice as many women as men, though there may not actually be that wide a disparity between the sexes. . .
Anxiety disorder can be either acute or chronic.
1. Acute Anxiety Disorder
Acute anxiety disorder manifests itself in episodes commonly known as panic attacks. A panic attack is an instance in which the body’s natural “fight or flight” reaction occurs at the wrong time. This is a complex, involuntary physiological response in which the body prepares itself to deal with an emergency situation. . .
A person having a panic attack often is overwhelmed by a sense of impending disaster or death, which makes it impossible to think clearly. Other feelings that can accompany a panic attack include:
- shortness of breath;
- a smothering claustrophobic sensation;
- heart palpitations;
- chest pain;
- dizziness;
- hot flashes and/or chills;
- trembling;
- numbness of tingling sensations in the extremeties;
- sweating;
- nausea;
- a feeling of unreality;
- and a distorted perception of the passage of time.
Panic Attacks Duration
Panic attacks are usually abrupt and intense. They can occur at any time of the day or night, lasting from several seconds up to half an hour. To the panic sufferer, it often feels as though they are much longer.
Panic Attacks Triggers
A person having a panic attack often believes that he or she is experiencing a heart attack or a stroke. The attacks themselves are very unpredictable; some people experience once every few weeks, while others may have several a day. They are often triggered by stress (conscious or unconscious) or certain emotions, but may also occur in response to certain foods, drugs, or illness.
Food allergies and hypoglycemia are both common among people with this disorder, and can promote panic attacks. An attack may follow ingestion or overindulgence in caffeine-based stimulants such as tea, or coffee. Some attacks occur with no apparent cause. The unpredictability of the attacks makes them even more distressing.
Self-induced Panic Attacks
Many people with acute anxiety disorder become fearful of being alone and of visiting public places because they fear having a panic attack. Of course this only adds to the level of anxiety and leads to their lives being abnormally restricted. Many psychologists believe that at least in some cases, panic attacks are self-induced; that is, the fear of a panic attack is the very thing that brings one about.
For years, panic attacks were dismissed as a psychosomatic phenomenon. However, repeated studies have shown that this disorder has a real, physical basis. Experts believe that panic attacks are caused principally by a malfunction in brain chemistry, wherein the brain sends and receives false “emergency signals.”
According to Mayo Clinic researchers, betwen 10 and 20% of Americans will have a panic attack at some time in their lives. Panic attacks are now recognized as a potentially disabling but treatable condition.
2. Chronic Anxiety Disorder
Chronic anxiety disorder is a mildier, more generalized form of this disorder. Many sufferes feel a vague sense of anxiety much of the time, but the intensity of the feeling does not reach the levels of those in an actual panic attack. They may feel chronically uneasy, especially in the presence of other people, and tend to startle easily. Headaches and chronic fatigue are common among people with this form of the disorder.
Generalized anxiety disorder can begin at any age, but the onset typically occurs in one’s twenties or thirties. Some people with chronic anxiety disorder also suffer from occasional panic attacks.
Anxiety disorder may be hereditary to some extent, as it seems to run in families.

Here are some very simple and effective techniques to help you experience a cure for panic attacks and start living a normal healthy life again.
The first thing you need to do is come to the realization that what is happening to you is a panic attack and not a heart attack or impending death. That in and of itself can help a lot. At the onset of a panic attack, make sure to remind yourself this is just a panic attack, you are not going to die, it will eventually pass.
An easily implemented cure for panic attacks is a simple breathing exercise. A very effective one is to put all of your concentration on your breathe and count to yourself breathing in 1, breathing out 1, breathing in 2, breathing out 2, all the way up to ten and start over.
Another cure for panic attacks you can use is to watch your wristwatch or a clock with a second hand. Watch the minute hand and tell yourself, if you are not dead or going totally insane, once one minute passes you will be all right. Then concentrate on watching the second hand move and try not to think about anything else but the second hand. When one minute is up, do the same thing again.
Go for two minutes to distract you from the symptoms of the panic attack. Symptoms like your hands going numb, the feeling that you can’t breathe, the thought that you are having a heart attack, the fear. Focusing on the second hand is a distraction from those thoughts.
While doing this you will still feel all of those feelings, but you need to concentrate with all your might on that second hand. Repeat the process until the panic attack passes, and it will pass. Keep reminding yourself that it is just a panic attack, not impending death, does help a lot also.
Say things like I’ve been here before and I know what is going on. It’s just my mind playing tricks on me, I will be all right. Just keep doing whatever you can to distract yourself until the attack subsides.
By just sitting there and experiencing the symptoms will only make the panic attack worse. You must get out of that place and take your concentration off of your symptoms and put it on a cure for panic attacks.
Realize that a panic attack is a wave, and it will pass on its own as long as you don’t re-enforce it by focusing on your fear and your symptoms. Put your focus anywhere else, and ride it out. It will pass. Keep reminding yourself that it’s just a panic attack that you are not in any real danger. It is just your mind messing with you. You will be okay.
