Has anyone heard of the soy isoflavone and resveratrol diet from Women’s World Magazine?
I just read an article in my Women’s World magazine that discussed by taking a soy isoflavone supplement along with a resveratrol supplement together, they actually make fat cells “self-destruct”. The women in the article claimed to have lost up to 15 lbs in one week. Now I know this may not sound healthy, but both of these supplements are antioxidants so they can’t be bad for you. I was just curious to see if anyone has tried this diet and does it work? I am already eating a low calorie, high fiber diet and exercising regularly but would like to add something to help me progress a little quicker. Any advice?
Has anyone tried the May 12, 2008, Woman’s World diet suggestion of combining soy isoflavones and Resveratrol?
RESPONSE:Yes, I’ve tried this and yes it works.
However, it didn’t work as well the first week when I used supplements from GNC. I have nothing against them, but their supplements just didn’t work well. Then I went to a vitamin shop that carries the brands PURE and THORNE – these brands are generally prescribed by doctors and can’t be bought in most drug stores. These are very potent sources of the two supplements and are working great. I have lost a pound a day for three days in a row now. Another thing I’ve noticed is that if you eat low fat and not too many carbs it works best. The article suggested that you follow their diet, but I think its just an example. I have just been eating healthy lower fat foods.
Has anyone tried the University of Georgia cocktail diet pill yet?
Please, only answer my question if you have tried it. I don’t care to hear the “real and only ways” to lose weight. I do weight watchers. I was just curious if anyone has. I read the article in woman’s world mag and it does make sense. Thank you.
Additional Details
Did you read the latest one? Or did you read the one only combining two pills? The latest article combines three pills after they did more research and doesn’t tell you to keep a 1200 cal diet. It says to eat what you want, but stop when you are full instaed, which is obvious, but thanks!!

I asked if anyone had tried supplements soy isoflavones and Resveratrol.?
Debbie R responded that she had bought Pure and Thorne brands and had begun losing weight. Can she give me an update?

Lose Weight for Free with Dr. Oz’s Tips: Are You On a Diet?
January 15, 2009
As seen on Woman’s World –
MaryAnne DellaFera’s antioxidant cocktail “diet pill”:
resveratrol, isoflavones and quercetin
Are you on a diet and committed to follow restrictive and complicated diet programs because you want to lose weight? Dr. Mehmet Oz, MD, Columbia University surgeon says: “simply making small changes will lead to big results in no time!” In Woman’s World Magazine (New Year’s Diet 2009) weight loss section, issue Jan. 5, 2009, Dr. Oz shares his most powerful, scientifically proven weight loss secrets for making you look and feel energized, healthy and beautiful.
Lose Weight for Free – Dr. Oz’s 11 Easiest Diet Tips to Make a Healthy You!
Dr. Oz promises: Use any—or all—of my tips, and you’ll find yourself walking taller, feeling better, looking great and smiling more.
1. Shave calories effortlessly by switching plates!
“Dinner plates are 50% bigger than salad plates,” notes Dr.Oz. The bigger the plates the more we pile on. Studies reveal that as long as our plate looks full, we feel satisfied. A key to a healthier, slimmer you: Switch from 12-inch to 8-inch plates today, and you’ll feel content eating less.
2. Nuts – the Anti-Hunger Snack
Munch on a handful of nuts 30 minutes before lunch and dinner. One ounce of nuts a day is just right; an ounce is about 7 walnuts or 24 almonds. “Nuts contain good fats that send a satiety signal from your stomach to your brain, which helps you avoid overeating later on,” says Dr. Oz.
Health and Beauty Bonus:
- Nuts’ good fats help keep arteries clear.
- Eating nuts helps stop skin-damaging rises in blood sugar, reducing both pimples and wrinkles.
3. Fight Fat with Fresh Foods
Get at least half of your calories from foods that still look pretty much the way Mother Nature grew them. Dr. Oz reveals “you’ll flip a switch that makes you want to eat less.”
Dr. Oz explains that fresh fruits, vegetables and beans are loaded with fiber, “which is so filling, it reduces your appetite dramatically.” Fiber also binds to fats and pushes them out of your system, which may help your body get rid of toxic trans fats!
4. Eat a Diet Rich in Whole Grains
Brown rice and oatmeal deliver a multitude of nutrients to stave off hunger, cravings, fatigue and disease. Several studies suggest that eating foods rich in whole grains may help you dodge cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
5. Lose Weight for Free: Walking Burn More Calories
Incorporating more walking into your normal routine burns more calories, builds metabolism-boosting muscle and makes your anti-hunger hormones surge! Studies show that 10,000 steps a day is a key to staying lean without struggle.
Health Bonus: Older women who walk frequently are 70% less likely to develop memory problems.

6. Stand Tall: Look 10 Pounds Thinner in 30 Seconds
Improved posture automatically pulls in your abs, making you look leaner.
7. Absorb Less Fat: A Daily Cup of Yogurt
“People tend to live longest when they get more calcium,” says Dr. Oz. Good bacteria in yogurt boost protection against a host of ills, including indigestion, infections and some cancers.
Benefits of Calcium:
- Builds strong bones
- Helps muscles function better
- Binds to fat, so you don’t absorb as many calories
8. Keep Hair Shiny – Eat Guacamole
Avocado is packed with plant fats that protect your heart—and your hair! Dr. Oz explains, “it prevents hormones from killing hair follicles.”
9. Take the “wow” Nutrient
Fish oil, loaded with DHA omega-3 fatty acids, is the only supplement proven to melt belly fat, fight depression, ease achy joints, protect your heart, even stave off aging. Dr. Oz says, “I strongly recommend women to take one gram a day.”
10. Lock Yourself Away for 5 Minutes
Stress has been linked to everything from weight gain to chronic pain and disease. To better control stress try Dr. Oz’s trick: Sit in a quiet room for a few minutes every day, close your eyes and repeat “hummmmm…” The rhythmic sound “stimulates the release of nitric oxide, a gas that relaxes your blood vessels.”
11. Sleep More – Lose More Weight for Free
Dr. Oz says, “People who sleep more lose more weight.” He explains further, “Good sleep creates a more optimal hormone balance including fewer stress hormones and more growth hormone, which is crucial for strong muscles, strong bones and firm skin. Make sleep a priority and ultimately, you’ll feel stronger, slimmer, zippier and happier.”
According to the Woman’s World magazine—readers who tested Dr. Oz’s healthy weight loss tips and strategies reported doubling their energy in 24 hours and dropping up to 9 pounds in just 7 days!

Many readers of Woman’s World Magazine, who want to lose weight, are searching in the internet for more information about resveratrol, soy isoflavones and quercetin.
3 Studies: Soy protein, isoflavones and resveratrol reduce fat
Three new studies show that nutrients from fruits and vegetables helped cut fat.
In a soy protein study, 15 obese, post-menopausal women, average age 56, drank a liquid meal containing 20 grams of soy protein with 160 mg of soy isoflavones per day or a placebo. After three months, although none of the women lost weight, those who drank the soy shake had lost an average of about 6 square inches of abdominal fat while those in the placebo group had gained 9 square inches of abdominal fat. Doctors do not know how soy cuts fat, but suggested that isoflavones may keep fat cells from building up.

MyRandomBlog.com Experience: Good week! Resveratrol and Soy Isoflavones
So after a week of eating healthy, counting calories, light exercise and taking the Soy Isoflavones and Resveratrol I’ve lost 12 pounds! Holy crap. I don’t think I’ve ever lost that much in a week. I’m very impressed. I hope it keeps up like this and I’ll be done before I know it. Just an FYI, there was a warning in the article I read that said if you’re at risk for breast cancer than you shouldn’t take these supplements, so don’t take these on my word. It just happens to be working for me and I’m not at risk. I can’t wait to see what happens next week! . . .

I ran across your blog after I googled quercetin, resveratrol and soy isoflavones. I’m still a bit skeptical, seeing that I’ve been on about two billion weight loss programs. However, in five days since I started taking the supplements, without diet modification or exercise, I’ve lost four pounds.
Please keep posting with your progress on this…I’d like to hear how you’re doing.

Congrats! I just started taking the supplements myself, so far it’s been 3 days. With Calorie counting and exercise I definitely feel a difference. My shirts feel much looser. I know it’s crazy to think that after only 3 days there could be a difference. But I really think there is.

Four weeks on Soy Isoflavones and Resveratrol in combo with my new healthy eating habits seems to have paid off well with a weight loss of 20 lbs. I’m very happy about this amount. I think it’s pretty damn good for a month. I’m sure this would/could have been more if I had stuck with it properly during the third week. Unfortunately I forgot to take my supplements about three or four days that week and didn’t really lose anything. And I also ate some meals that were to high in calories for my daily consumption. Luckily I didn’t gain anything.

Some Woman’s World Magazine readers had posted questions and answers about the University of Georgia’s (UGA) diet cocktail Pill at Yahoo Answers
Here are some questions/answers and comments that I’ve found:
QUESTION (from username:sister): Has anyone tried the May 12, 2008, Woman’s World diet suggestion of combining soy isoflavones and Resveratrol?
ANSWER (from username: DebbieR): Best Answer – Chosen by Asker
Yes, I’ve tried this and yes it works.
I have just been eating healthy lower fat foods.
For those of you who haven’t read the article, it basically says that researchers at the University of GA found that resveratraol and soy isoflavones combined in a test tube with fat cells, disolved (I think that was the word) the fat cells. The article suggests that you take 100 mg of each supplement each day. Of their testers one woman lost fifteen pounds in a week and another woman lost 5 pounds.
Anyway, my advice is to get the best and most pure form of the supplements you can find if you are going to try this. I found that the GNC supplements were a waste of money.
Good luck.

QUESTION (from username: Sueann H): Diet pills do What ones work?
I am i need of some wieght loss from having kids , 3 to be exact , any how i need to lose 20 pounds , and the faster the better . any ideas on how and with what diet pills?
ANSWER (from username: BabeHeart): Eat right and exercise. Bottom line is diet pills are mostly ineffective, all of them give you a diet plan and tell you to exercise (so you’d lose weight without the pill, why are you spending the money?) and they tend to make the drug companies richer while doing little for the users. Seriously.
If someone suggests anything to you, research it online (not on sites that sell it!) before buying. You’ll find many do have ingredients that are known to promote weight loss, but they almost always have those ingredients in amounts too small to be effective.
Do look up the University of Georgia diet pill cocktail though. Someone asked about it here a couple of days ago, and I could find no negative information on it. It’s not well proven, but doesn’t appear to be harmful, and had some positive results in the test they did. There are 3 things you take…resveratrol, soy isoflavones, and quercetin (I think I spelled them all correctly).
EDIT: Re: fast loss…1 – 3 lbs/wk max is recomended if you want to keep it off long term. The faster you lose, the more likely you are doing it in an unhealthy manner, and the more likely you are to regain when you stop that unhealthy practice. You didn’t put it on overnight, don’t expect to lose it overnight.
